crazy.
At the risk of mixing sports and politics, this Iraqi team's placing in the games will have a stake in the U.S. election in November. Anyone disagree?

Yes. I don't see why them playing a good game of soccer will effect which idiot gets the big house. If they win and then bomb the stadium, that's different. But honestly, them winning isn't a political statement. At least, IMO.

I don't think soccer is big enough in either the States or Iraq to affect the political enviroment. But stranger things have happened, so one never knows

Yes it directly affects the politcal race in the states. Bush has been running campaign adds about the few Iraqi athletes saying that now they are free to compete thanks to him (I hate bush that fucking asshole, he's the one person in this world that I would literally kick in the nuts if I saw him)

I am just happy they're there. I wish they were playing the U.S and then won. ;D

The reason why Iraq is doing well at the Olympics I think is because they played the Asian Cup with the same team thats been playing now on the Olympics.
All the other teams didn't play (major) tournaments on the highest level.
I've said it on the Flames forum, Iraq is gonna win the gold

Iraq is gonna win the gold If they do, W will point to the team as an example of the spirit and drive of the Iraqi people, and indirectly imply that it was all possible because of his decision to go to war. I'm not condemning nor condoning, just think it will become at least a talking point.

Argetina won the gold... And Ajax signed right winger Rosales to a 4 year contract.
