Yes or No?
I vote no....hell no. It scares me that Shanny and his group came up with this as their #1 way to improve the game.
My suggestion for overtime: - 10 minutes of 4 on 4 - 5 minutes of 3 on 3 - Penalties in overtime are served each for 1 minute
With the current 5 minute, 4 on 4 overtime we see roughly 30%-40% of them result in a win for one team. By increasing it to 10 minutes I'd assume 75% of games would be decided, and if necessary, it would go into a 3 on 3 for 5 minutes. How could you not score with this format?
Might I add that I was at the Vancouver vs Calgary game at the Dome, which resulted in a 4-4 tie. There was a point in overtime where both teams were penalized, playing 3 on 3, and it was amazing. It was chance after chance, and easily the best action I've ever witnessed at a game.

If they bring in shootouts I'll shit a brick. The game's been slowed down enough with the trap, watching a shootout is like watching chess.

I can testify to the fact that shootouts suck. Ties have been around for decades, let's not mess with the NHL's tradition more than the mess Bettman made already - like changing the great division names of Smythe, Norris, etc, to bland vanilla names like NW, SE, etc.

I don't like the idea of shootouts in the NHL, for pretty much the same reasons that have been mentioned countless times. Wouldn't seem right either, OT is just fine the way it is.

I like ties too - and they better not have shootouts in the playoffs.
