Sorry, but I have to bring up an interesting discussion from the flames.com. After you die, do you believe you are still you? I do.
Why I ask is because my uncle just died. I got a call from my mom in Peace River about ten minutes ago. I have to make a trip all the way up there tonight.
I don't feel too upset. I got along with him and loved him, but he was so sick for so long that when I heard he died it didn't really come as a shock. I know that sounds cold of me, but it just wasn't a shock. I can't even shed a tear right now, maybe I'm in shock?
Plus knowing that he will find out that he still has the same memories and mind after he died makes me feel better. All you lose when you die is your body, I know this is true. Feels weird referring to him in the past tense.
So...yeah, I'll be back in Edmonton this weekend probably. See you all.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle Hootch. I think maybe you are in shock a bit. And maybe a little bit of relief. I've had a few people close to me suffer a few years before they died, and when they finally passed on there was a part of me happy they no longer had to suffer.Good luck on you trip
And yes, I firmly believe in an afterlife, and you are yourself in spirit form. It's life's greatest mystery, and we can only go by what we've read in diffrently religious books. There is no confirmed proof, as nobody has come back from the dead to tell us what it is like after (I don't count those near death pantients) It's either something we believe in or we don't. I don't even think you have to be religious to believe in life after death

I believe in life after death, and I also believe that those who pass can contact you from the other side. Shortly after my sister passed away, I was going to bed one night, no one else in the house was up, and I heard very clearly someone say 'goodnight'...

Hootch, Sorry to hear about your uncle, have a safe trip! I'm not really sure what I believe in, it feels better to believe that the people you love and care about can still see you and I'd like to believe that they're always with me. But it partly seems too far out there to believe. I've been struggling with my faith for the past few months. I grew up a Christian and it was always instinct to say I believed in heaven.. but I've just started really thinking lately about how I've never really tried to believe it for myself. It's always just been to agree with my friends and family. That was sort of long and pointless... sorry.

Well I can't get a ticket there until tomorrow so I'm stuck here. My mom said he died around 4pm.

Ouch, that sucks. I know the best place to be when something like this happens is with family.

When you die, the flies eat you. I didn't know flies had the ability to dig several feet into the ground and open a casket. You've already given your opinion on the subject enough MCM, nobody cares anymore. And thats pretty fuckin rude to say something like that when Hootch loses a family member. We can all see you're obviously mad at God for some reason, don't take it out on everyone else.

That's rough to hear Hootch, and I hope all is well otherwise.
As for afterlife or anything like that, I'm not really sure I believe in any of that stuff. I've always kinda leaned towards re-incarnation, as that has always been able to explain how I know stuff about the past without ever reading about it or anything.

I am sorry for your loss, Hootch.
I personally don't believe in an afterlife, heaven, hell, reincarnation, séances, or a god. But that does not mean that I don't believe that comfort comes in death, especially for those who are or have been ill for some time. Even if part of you questions whether or not your lost loved one remians in spirit, you can gain contentment in knowing that he is at peace.

Thx everyone. I'm just packing some stuff and will be leaving today at 7:15. I'm really not that upset, kinda glad for him actually. If I was sick for that long, I'd welcome death too.
