Marijuana isn't addicting.... No, but direct smoke inhilation is. You're a med student....marijuana is no different from cigarettes, as far as damage to the body is concerned.

Atl, if you don't want to inhale it don't. My point is that as far as marijuana goes, you can smoke one joint and never smoke it again, without any long term effects. Once you smoke a cigarette you're hooked. Don't try to debate with me on medical science.

Atl, I don't support decriminization of pot, but I know for a fact that it isn't as damaging as cigarettes. In fact, it hardly is at all. It's like breathing in smoke from the BBQ for one blunt, and damage to brain cells is the same as bumping your head against something. Sorry if it isn't the 'godly' thing to do. Oh, wait, it is, if you're Rastafarian.

My ambition is to be able to smoke it out of a corn husk like Marley. I love that man.

Atl, I am a conservative, I believe that we need to make the right choices in life, but for some people who made the wrong decision, we should cut them some slack. I am not communist for thinking this. I am in favour of privatization. I am in favour of low taxes. I am in favour of NAFTA. After you said this, it makes me wonder... are you really a moderate when you said you were one? Thanks for voting Bush, though. I like having NAFTA to boost our economy, and the American dollar is dropping steadily, making our dollar better by comparison. Have you ever seen the warning labels on packages of cigarettes? People are warned about smoking can alter their life in the future. If people choose to continue smoking, they shouldn't expect the government to issue them oxygen tanks because they pissed away their health.

Were they there in the 60's when everybody started and got addicted? Looking at the state of Canada and the USA, I don't the the US is in any position to give us political tips.

Atl, marijuana smoke and cigarette smoke are chemically different. In that there are much more lethal chemicals in cigarette smoke than there is in marijuana smoke, or the cigarette in general. I don't care if someone smokes a joint around me, it won't hurt me. A cigarette? Well, let's just say it doesn't stay lit for long.

Now, I've never smoked pot and never intend to, but seeing Atl act the way he has in this thread may make me want to a bit more.
Actually, I don't. Screw pot. I don't need a plant to make me have fun.

Once you smoke a cigarette you're hooked. Don't try to debate with me on medical science. I never said marijuana wasn't addictive. However, it's long-term effects aren't exactly nil. THC in the brain, respiratory problems, greater risk of heart attacks, weakening of the immune system, etc. are some of the effects. That's what I've been getting at.

I never said that you said it wasn't addictive.
I'm saying it isn't. There are people who get sucked in to becoming potheads, and those are the people who experience the health effects you mentioned. The same could be said for people who drink too much. Pick your poison, Atl, and we all know you like your beer.
BTW, alcohol is more addictive than marijuana.
