“Vincent Damphousse provides us with quality forward depth,” said Avalanche President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix. “His versatility and experience will definitely contribute to the future success of our club.”
Damphousse (pronounced DAHM-fooz), 36, arrives in Colorado as a veteran of 18 NHL seasons split between Toronto, where he began his career, Edmonton, Montreal and most recently with San Jose where he served as the Sharks’ captain. He ended the season tied for fifth in scoring for San Jose and was key to the Sharks’ playoff run in 2004, leading the Sharks in post-season scoring with seven goals (including three game-winning goals) and seven assists in 17 playoff games. He finished tied for ninth among all NHL playoff scorers last season and closed out his stint in San Jose with a consecutive games played streak of 247 games.
“I’m excited and extremely enthusiastic about joining the Avalanche, a club that has already established a winning tradition in Denver,” said Damphousse. “I’m looking forward to playing in such a great hockey environment.”
A native of Montreal, Quebec, the 6-1, 205-pound Damphousse has amassed 1,205 points (432 goals and 773 assists) in 1,378 career NHL contests and is ranked 38th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list (13th all-time among active players). His 432 goals places him 59th among NHL goal scorers and his 773 assists places him 30th on the all-time assist list. The four-time NHL All-Star won a Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993.
I'd say... nice move on Colorado's. Solid player with good depth.
